Children's Literacy Initiative

Hey everyone and happy 2023!

For my first blog of the year, I wanted to share my children's literacy initiative with all of you. At the time of writing this, I have 29 books to my name and 2 more are set to be released before the end of the month.

As a way of giving back (paying it forward), I came up with a children's literacy initiative last year. I have received donations from Pamela Nomvete, a renowned South African actress based in the UK as well as from Carolyn Steyn, a media personality and philanthropist.

Please share the initiative and help improve children's literacy in 2023!

My printing cost per book is $3.50 so I add $1.00 on top of that just for this initiative. My normal book price is $6.00. So a book would be bought at  $4.50 instead of $6.00. I distribute the books to the various schools myself. Once distributed, I take photos at the various underprivileged schools here in South Africa and make sure that I mention the funder. For the Zambian schools, I work with an NGO called Katuba Literacy & Outreach Centre. For Malawi, I work with an organization called Library Mission. Here in South Africa, I do the distribution myself.

I  donate to various schools here in South Africa, Malawai and in my country of birth Zambia . My dream is for this initiative to go global and provide the gift of books to children all over the world. Of the approximately 27 000 schools in South Africa, almost 86% are under-resourced, having little or no library resources and/or no librarians.

The books can be purchased directly from my website: https://kamulenga.com/books.html or you can email me for more info:

I make sure the books get to children in rural schools or public schools that cannot afford books and I cover the cost of distribution etc thus improving literacy.

Please note that I am in the process of finalizing a fiscal sponsorship agreement with a US-based agency.

I have attached some pics of kids who have benefitted from this initiative.

Thanks so much and I wish you all a prosperous and blessed New Year!
